Dental Implants
For some patients, implant placement may be necessary to support desired restorative treatments.Single crowns, partials, overdentures and bridges can all be supported with an implant. After the fixturehas integrated with the surrounding bone, the added restoration will have the same support as it would based on a natural tooth. In some cases, a provisional restoration can be placed at the time of implant placement, although the patient will be told not to chew with the provisional. Usually, after three to six months of osseointegration, the final and permanent tooth replacement is placed.

Periodontal disease results from untreated gum disease. Soft tissue (gum), supporting bone and tooth material can all be destroyed by periodontal disease. Symptoms of gum disease and periodontal disease include inflammation of the affected area, tenderness and bleeding during brushing. Treatments for periodontal disease may include a thorough oral hygiene regimen, removal of plaque and tartar, bone and soft tissue (gum) grafting, extraction and/or antibiotics or anti-inflammatories.

Many people are terrified of dental appointments, so many dentists and dental specialists are adding sedation methods to their treatment methodology. There is no need for patients to avoid dental treatment any longer with the use of sedation. Sedation can take the form of: Intravenous (IV) sedation, where a sedative is administered through an IV; inhalation sedation, where nitrous oxide is inhaled through a mask; and oral sedation, where the patient swallows a sedative or anti-anxiety medication. Each patient will need to discuss with their dentist their specific needs and decide on the appropriate sedation option for them.
Wisdom Teeth
It has almost become a rite of passage for young people to have their wisdom teeth extracted. Wisdom teeth do not adversely affect everyone. But, the vast majority of patients will experience some repercussion from the presence of the wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth, if left in place, may affect the effectiveness of a patient’s bite, and can cause temporomandibular joint issues and headaches. Wisdom teeth in the lower jaw are often more difficult to remove than those in the upper jaw. A dentist or oral surgeon will perform most extractions under IV sedation in their office. Patients with diabetes or other potentially complicating medical conditions may need to have their wisdom teeth extraction in hospital under a general anaesthetic.
