CAD\CAM Crowns

In the past decades dentists have begun to utilize the same technologies that have become normal in design industries worldwide. CAD\CAM technology in dental work is similar to that of automotive planning and interior design. By imputing a patient’s oral map into the computer designing a new smile becomes exponentially easier.

This technology allows for less time in the dentist’s office, and reduces discomfort following the procedures. Prior to CAD\CAM technology, extensive, grueling and exasperating measurements were required, often leading to some user error in the process. Utilizing CAD\CAM, it is possible to map out the entire process of oral rejuvenation prior to embarking on any procedures.

Outside of planning, the direct impact of the CAD\CAM technology appears when the process is applied to construction of oral prostheses. This new technology will allow for utilization of a zirconium infused porcelain, stronger and more natural looking, to construct a patient’s new smile. A patient needs to speak with their dentist to determine whether or not they possess the skill and technology to for this new style of work. Costs will obviously be higher for these procedures, as well, but as CAD\CAM becomes more prevalent in coming years, the price will drop.

Previous dental work such as fillings can be redone with this technology as well. If a patient feels that the outcome did not fit their desired expectation, then it may be prudent to examine a similar procedure using new technology.
